The Essay on Self-Reliance
by Ralph Waldo Emerson
This book measures 9" x 7" and has 60 pages. The text body is set in Cheltenham and was printed in two colors on Roycroft hand made paper. The binding is paper over boards with a leather spine. This binding is known as an Alicia binding. It is also sometimes called half leather. McKenna states that this was the first Roycroft book to use a dust jacket and there were two varieties. One was a glassine dust jacket and the other was a brown paper wrapper. The Alicia binding on this book is a variant not listed in McKenna.
