Life Lessons
by Alice Hubbard, 1909
Binding by Frederick Kranz
This book measures 9" x 6 3/4" and has 194 pages. The body of text is in Monotype 97J and the regular edition was printed on Boxmoor paper in 3 colors. The title page, colophon, initial letters and ornaments were designed by Dard Hunter. This book was produced in many bindings, which included the modeled leather shown above, full Levant, Alicia, 3/4 Levant, and paper over boards.
Note: Probably bound by Frederick Kranz,
who specialized in polished leather bindings. I particularly admire its
3-dimensional quality, and its generally “Finished” appearance.
Note: Priced at $40.00 in a 1910 Roycroft catalogue and $100.00 in a 1927
catalogue.
