A Message to Garcia and Thirteen Other Things
by Elbert Hubbard, 1901
This book measures 8 5/8" x 5 3/4" and
has 166 pages plus colophon. The text body is set in Old Style Antique and
printed on on Boxmoor paper TEG. The regular editions of this book was bound in
paper over boards with paper labels or full suede. The edition above bound in
paper over boards with a suede spine is a variant not listed in McKenna.
Interestingly the common full suede edition is not listed in McKenna either.
Additionally, an edition of 450 copies had facsimile pages of the original
manuscript inserted in the book, was hand illumined, and bound in full suede
with a wallet edge. There was an edition of 50 printed on Imperial Japan Vellum,
hand illumined and bound in 3/4 leather and marble board. There were other
special order bindings available and I believe it was also bound in full Levant.
The regular edition of A Message to Garcia above is listed in the 1901
and 1902 catalogs for $2.00
