Harry Avery was among the first of Kinder's students, I've found very little information about his life. His particular forte as a binder was the use of inlays. Unlike Dick Wolfe, in his book on Kinder and Dave Ogle, in his forthcoming book on the Roycroft, "On a High Shelf", I feel strongly that Avery's bindings are among the very best and most sophisticated produced at the Roycroft Shop. Louis Kinder's influence is quite evident in this binding.

This book measures 8 1/4" x 7" and has 70 pages. It was printed on Dickinson hand made paper in two colors and the text body is McFarland. The book was bound in suede, an edition of 100 was bound in 3/4 leather with Japan Vellum pages, additionally some of the regular edition were printed on Whatman paper and bound in modeled leather. Not noted in McKenna but displayed here is the full Levant binding which is part of the edition of 100. The quantities bound full Levant are not presently know. The title page was designed by Samuel Warner. The binding was designed, executed and signed by Harry Avery.
